Man, Summer Camp is fun! We get some provocative prompts, and I thought I'd go a little sideways on this one: "a fictional character some believe to be real". I leaned into something that occupied my little brain when I was a little kid--that sometimes "nobody" might refer to "somebody".
In this story, I went maybe a little creepy with a bogeyman vibe....

Fourth article for #SummerCamp2026, 1st Summer Camp article for this world. This world is a reboot of my old one, where I hope to massively improve. Enjoy a secret hidden in its depths known to only a select few and the gods themselves. The edge of the world is real...especially when something prevents you from going any further.
So, I fell behind on my global updates because this article that I did for Summer Camp Prompt #13: A War that Expanded Territory, and it's the centerpiece of the current story in my campaign - The Kalee-Yam'rii Conflict. It also made me realize I missed a key event in my timeline when writing the articles for Qymaen jai Sheelal and Gekikō‑butai, so I had to go back and edit them. Now that I've taken the time to do that, we're back on track. Happy camping!

Finally had time to write my second SC article! This week and the next I've got lots more free time so I'll be able to put out some more as well. I can already see some room for expansion with this one, but I'm happy with it as is. Maybe I'll add another section at some point but I'm in no rush
3rd article for #SummerCamp2026. I've marked it as 18+ given its discussion on fertility, I am actually unsure if it needs to be marked that way, there isn't anything explicit, I think. Anyway, the moon, werewolves, and fertility, what isn't there to love!? I plan to update this article to include non-fertility related effects as well (added to to-do list).

Hey everyone! Take a look at the first article I'm posting for the Worldbuilding Summer Camp this year!
In a harsh, arid savanna in Kerine, communities have realized that they cannot sustain themselves as their population grows. As a result, they formed an order of warriors made up of the elder, more battle-hardened warriors of their settlements named The Bones of Isaar, named for their sacrifice and the one who formed the order. They essentially swear off resources that might eventually go to the people of their home, and wander the savanna protecting their people until they eventually perish from the harsh conditions.
Its my take on the prompt "A faction that employs questionable methods for the love of their people." Its a bit of fantasy dystopia with some Nights Watch vibes from GoT too. Take a look if you have a chance!

Actually though, I am so happy to be back on WA, this time with a structured plan of attack instead of just throwing word spaghetti at the wall. I'm ready to write, I'm ready to get feral, and I'm so excited to post my special announcement for real!

Gift the second is what I'm calling the altscotch, or alternative hopscotch. Summer Camp Prep this year is in the style of hopscotch, with each week having a new set of 7 tasks. The hopscotch is adorable but the prep tasks weren't working for me. So I created an alternative set of tasks that are more thematic.

Once next month starts up, one of the biggest challenges here on World Anvil does as well! Summer Camp is a month-long prompt bonanza. It's a creative marathon! To help people all the way to the finish line, I started a camp called Camp Chill. Camp Chill is about sustainable Summer-Camping, preserving our joy, and having a great time together. You can pledge for any badge you want and still be Camp Chill. We've all got our own pace!
Camp Chill was started in 2022, with a set of guidelines written to help people enjoy a Summer Camp where the fire stays lit all month. We're bringing the s'mores, the ice cream for when it gets too hot, fire extinguishers for potential burnout, and we pledge, above all, to have a good time!

Weeks 1 and 2 of the Summer Camp prep are all done, and I'm so excited for the challenge to begin! I've been eagerly waiting for months, gnawing at the bars of my cage. (8,000+ words so far, and less than 200/1947 articles have been checked for needed references)

It’s been a while since I wrote one of these. Where have I been? Deep into my writing! The first draft of my novel is finally coming to a close. I am alive and well—as well as one can be! Sometimes you just have to buckle down and focus on what you're working on.
That being said, I did take a short break for a fun challenge I participated in last year: Dip a Toe In by Asmo. The opportunity to visit and write a story set in another creator's world is so much fun, provided you're comfortable with it. I participated last year with my story, A Spoonful of Penance .
This year, the theme was "create a problem," and I did just that! Crucially, I left the problem open-ended, so the other world's creator can use it if they want to. It was a fantastic writing exercise.
I wrote an Elegant Problem and Check out Asmo's challenge it might spark something in you. Also reason to explore a new world.
Finally got around to starting up the Shattered World Campaign 1 again! This time, session 2 finished up and I have the report written up. My players were chaotic and all over the place, but hey! At least, they finally all met.

Published chapter 11 finally. I managed to get the first draft done and got some time to edit it. Originally, I wasn't sure I was going to work on my manuscripts, but then I realized that the Hitchhiker's Guide is limited to 2,000 words which is too easy for me. My original draft stands at 12,000+ words.
Last month what little writing time I get was consumed by Adventure April which took longer than I expected. This month most of my writing time has been consumed by the Hitchhiker's Guide to Chendiuria.

I must start by apologizing that for the foreseeable future, I am not getting to work on my manuscripts as other writing has consumed what little writing time I get.
Last month it was Adventure April; this month it is the Hitchhiker's Guide to Augmented Valor that is consuming all my writing time.
I just started writing the guide and haven't edited it yet, so expect some mistakes and misspellings. If you look over what I have written so far, I would love some suggestions and/or creative criticism.
Creating a Hitchhiker’s Guide for the Augmented Valor universe requires a specific blend of bureaucratic dry wit, cosmic cynicism, and a healthy dose of "Don't Panic" (even when faced with Screamer-Vant Neuro-Gas).
The break from writing my manuscripts has been helpful. I am taking the time to gather my very scattered notes from all of my paper binders, notebooks, stenographer's pads, etc. into Milanote.
My return to my manuscripts is uncertain, and I suspect few will miss them.

Hello World Anvil I come bearing the gift of STATS!
I started the WAWA voting season off with a back injury. A mild one - I'll be fine in another day or two - but I opted to distract myself from it with the tedium of data entry. I assembled a spreadsheet of all WAWA awards, nominees, worlds, and winners since the first one in 2020. The numbers paint a very interesting picture...
2026 has continued the upward climb of unique Worlds, authors, and new nominees from the past two years, reaching levels comparable to lockdown-era WA. And unlike prior years, the top-nominated spot is spread across seven people.

I used the list on Learn to compile all this, but there are a couple caveats:
You'll see 2023 is missing from my tables below. Prior to 2024, the competition was named for the prior year because all submissions had to be from that year. So WAWA 2022 featured articles made in 2022 but was held in 2023. The time restriction was removed for 2024, and the event name was changed to the year it was held in.
This table shows the number of unique worlds and unique authors among each year's nominees, along with the total number of first-time nominees that year. As you can see, 2021 was a stand-out year for participation, likely due to everyone being stuck in lockdown. Participation dropped afterward, but 2026 gets close to lockdown numbers.

It's fun to look at those who win a lot, but they're the exceptions, not the norm.

WAWA has continually evolved since its start. This year's changes have given us greater diversity in our nominees and eliminated the popularity contest while still giving the community a voice in what our favorite articles are. The industry judges make the biggest categories feel that much more special.
We're likely to continue seeing familiar names among nominees - exceptional worldbuilders will keep being exceptional - but it's refreshing to not have a single name sweep the competition. However, the World awards are an area of potential improvement. While I have thoughts on that, this isn't the post to share them.
There's still room to grow, but that's true of all of us. With my back injury healing, I'm itching to start reviewing nominees and making my own votes. I can't wait for the awards ceremony this year, and to see how WAWA continues to change in the future.

How's the worldbuilding coming along? Projects humming well? Hope so! After January's rest and recover, it's time to dive back in , right? Me too! But, at least for me, it's wise to ease back in. If i don't, I'll overcommit and then panic! No one needs panic, right?
So, to help with that easing in, I thought I'd bring some nice, calming Geography this time! One of the bedrocks (...ok, I couldn't resist that one...) of worldbuilding. Language, and so much more revolve around how a culture and people see their local geography which in turn...shapes their culture! So hey, let's get started!

So I've finally decided to share something I've been working on for over a year now. I started writing this novel ages ago but put it aside, and now that I've built out so much more of my world (Eluvemar), I've gone back to do a proper re-edit. Fingers crossed someone here enjoys it!
Starfire: Book One of The Starless Prophecy Trilogy
She fell through fire and lightning, from a world of ash into one where stars still burn. Sera wakes in the Harrowing Grounds with nothing: no name, no House, no understanding of how she came to be here. Only the stranger's last words echo in her skull: survive. And the certainty that this place is wrong in ways she cannot yet name.
The Vylerrian Institute of Thaumaturgical Arts takes her in, not knowing she was never meant to be their student. They train her. Test her. Find her magic wild, her instincts feral, her eyes fixed on shadows that do not exist for others. Welcome to Week 7 of the Saga!
Raven & Quill Issue #7: The Inkwell is live alongside Chapter 5: A Key of Scars. We return to Qianna to peel back the layers of her past.
But the real story this week is about the deep rabbit hole of cartography.
I confess: the map nerd in me took over. I realized the current satellite imagery for Vespria wasn't enough to satisfy the vision. So, instead of just writing, I spent the week rebuilding the Vesprian realms from the ground up in Photoshop to prepare for a massive InDesign overhaul.
